Project name: Rehabilitation of the Wavy Pool and Wild River at Aquapark Gino Paradise with SopremaPool Solutions
Owner: Aquapark Gino Paradise
Installation company: GLS Techno LTD
Project description:
Solution type: Waterproofing
Type of work: Rehabilitation
Products: SopremaPool Premium azure blue and SopremaPool Feeling azure blue reinforced membrane, geotextile Geoland HT 300, angle PVC metal strips and flat PVC metal strips.
Location: Tbilisi, Georgia
The project involved the rehabilitation of two of the main aquatic attractions in the park: the Wavy Pool and the Wild River. Both pools required effective waterproofing solutions to eliminate the high annual maintenance costs associated with surface painting.
The park is making significant improvements, and in previous seasons, other pools in the park have also been rehabilitated using SopremaPool membranes.
Implemented solutions
Synthetic waterproofing with SopremaPool
For both pool rehabilitations, an advanced waterproofing system was chosen using SopremaPool Premium and SopremaPool Feeling reinforced membranes, both in azure blue colour. The geotextile Geoland HT 300 was installed across the entire surface, providing an additional layer of protection between the pool structure and the SopremaPool reinforced membrane. The geotextile acts as a fungicidal barrier, preventing the creation of unsightly stains on the membrane caused by the spread of microorganisms. The SopremaPool Tex 350 PP geotextile can also be an excellent option.
This system, applied over a total area of 3,834 m², ensures durable and high-quality protection.
Treated areas
- Wavy Pool: A total surface area of 1,980 m² was covered, combining SopremaPool Premium azure blue (990 m²) and SopremaPool Feeling azure blue (990 m²).
- Wild River: A total of 1,854 m² was rehabilitated using SopremaPool Premium azure blue (1,671 m²) and SopremaPool Feeling azure blue (183 m²).
Additionally, angle PVC metal strip and flat PVC metal strip were used, ensuring a robust and durable installation that can withstand the operational demands of the water park.
SopremaPool Premium
The SopremaPool Premium membranes are reinforced synthetic membranes produced by cast process. With a thickness of 1.5 mm, these membranes have a varnish coating on the upper side, providing enhanced durability and resistance to chlorine, microorganisms, and UV rays.
Their flexibility and softness, combined with a variety of exclusive designs, including those that mimic ceramic finishes, make them an ideal choice for high-end projects.
Additionally, their waterproofing is guaranteed for 12 years, with an additional 3-year guarantee against stains caused by bacteria.
SopremaPool Feeling
The SopremaPool Feeling membranes also have a thickness of 1.5 mm and are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, UV rays, and microorganisms. Their installation is simple and quick, and their special texture provides added comfort to the touch. These membranes comply with the European slip standard resistance standards EN 13451-1 (according to annex B of EN 15836-2) and DIN 51097 (1992), making them ideal for use in beach areas and shallow zones to maximize user safety.
Advantages
All SopremaPool membranes consist of four layers reinforced with a polyester mesh, providing the membrane with great tensile strength and excellent dimensional stability. Additionally, they offer high resistance to weathering, UV rays, and, thanks to the special "Bio Shield" treatment, they also have strong resistance to microorganisms. These features, along with their ability to be optimally welded and their high mechanical and puncture resistance, make SopremaPool membranes a reliable and durable solution for pool rehabilitation projects.
Project challenges
In the Wavy Pool, the main challenge was waterproofing the area of the air pressure blowers used for wave generation, a zone highly exposed to water movement and high pressure. This area presented significant technical difficulties for securing the membrane.
Moreover, an additional challenge was the waterproofing of the Climbing Wall located above the Wavy Pool. The vertical nature of the wall, combined with its exposure to water from both the pool and the climbers, made it particularly difficult to achieve a reliable and durable seal.
To address this, our technical department designed a special mechanical fixing system to ensure a safe and effective application, even in the most challenging areas of the project.
Furthermore, in both the Wavy Pool and the Wild River attraction, it was crucial to ensure that, through the use of anti-slip membranes such as SopremaPool Feeling, the surfaces in the beach area and in zones with a depth of less than 1.5 meters were safe. The SopremaPool Feeling membranes comply with the slip resistance standards according to EN 13451-1 (as outlined in Annex B of EN 15836-2) and DIN 51097 (1992), ensuring the safety of users, especially in high-traffic areas.
Benefits and results
The use of SopremaPool membranes not only eliminated the high annual maintenance costs associated with painting but also significantly improved user safety by installing anti-slip surfaces in critical areas.
